Frequently Asked Questions

Earth Day Canada wants to put self-directed outdoor play back into childhood. Our EarthPLAY programs bring enriched play opportunities to our parks, schools and neighbourhood streets; this promotes childhood development, health and well-being, connects the next generation to the environment, and supports the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which protects every child’s right to unstructured leisure time. How is Pledge4PLAY supporting EarthPLAY?

Earth Day Canada hopes to raise $25,000 for EarthPLAY programs. The goal for 2018 is to support outdoor play for 20,000 kids. Today, less than 20 per cent of kids engage in the kind of outdoor play that builds resilience, self-confidence, and well-being. With your help Earth Day Canada can bring enriched play opportunities into schools, parks, streets and community green spaces. Click HERE to learn more about EarthPLAY.

Can I host my own Earth Day event?

Yes, get outside and and bring adventure play to your local park with loose parts! Download our Consume Less, Play More for Earth Day 2018 TOOLKIT to learn how. Then, upload your event to our Events Calendar and promote it to your network of friends, family, colleagues and neighbours.

How else can I get involved in Earth Day this year?

Share Your Urban Jungle Adventure! Earth Day 2018 is supported by Mowgli, the hero of Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book stories and star of Kidoons’ upcoming play featuring Mowgli in the urban jungle. Show Mowgli how you get outside and play in the urban jungle! Use hashtags #EarthPLAY, #EarthDay2018, #ConsumeLess and #Kidoons to tag us on Facebook and Twitter @EarthDayCanada, and on Instagram @EarthDayCan between April 1-30.

How can schools participate?

For Earth Day 2018, we’re challenging schools across Canada to EarthPLAY for Earth Day – either with an extra or extended recess, or by hosting a full day of Adventure Play. Our EarthPLAY for Schools page includes a free toolkit for schools to help guide them through this process. Participating schools are invited to send a photo or video and testimonial of their EarthPLAY event to the Sony EarthPLAY for Earth Day Contest for a chance to win one of 10 Sony Action Cameras.
