Project Manager in waste management (Trois-Rivières)

Earth Day Canada is looking for a Project Manager in waste management to continue our partnership with the Alcoa Foundation. The project aims to offer, with our partners, support to businesses and institutions in the City of Trois-Rivières as part of the recent implementation of the collection of organic materials. Other mandates aimed at source reduction will then be added to the territory of the MRCs of Bécancour and Nicolet-Yamaska. Under the supervision of the Action Réduction team manager, the person must:

Main responsibilities:

  • Update the list of pre-selected businesses.
  • Offer support in residual materials management to voluntary businesses and institutions.
  • Participate in various events to encourage the business community to establish the collection of organic materials.
  • Develop various tools to diligently monitor the progress of the project.

In each of the businesses visited:

  • Carry out the characterization of the different bins and audits.
  • Evaluate the recovery system in place.
  • Propose improvements and alternatives in residual materials management practices to meet source reduction, reuse and material recovery objectives.
  • Provide training to staff.
  • Evaluate their performance with a view to granting the certificate(s) provided for by the project.
  • Raise awareness of zero waste practices and/or support in the implementation of eco-responsible actions, particularly in responsible sourcing.
  • Perform data entry in project management tracking software.
  • Participate in various meetings with our regional partners to better coordinate our actions.
  • Develop guides and other communication supports for the different phases of the project.
  • Collaborate on other projects in the region aimed at source reduction and diversion of materials from landfills.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in environment or equivalent.
  • Experience in waste management.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Experience in awareness raising.
  • Available and comfortable with regular, solo travel.
  • Enjoy working in the field.
  • Great autonomy, proactivity, dynamism, interpersonal skills and resourcefulness.
  • Good command of Office Suite tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Working conditions :

  • Salary: According to the salary policy in effect, between $23/h and $28/h.
  • Duration: 1 year with possibility of renewal.
  • Schedule: 35 hours/week, with flexibility.
  • Telephone reimbursement up to $40/month.
  • Group insurance after 3 months.
  • RRSP contribution after 3 months.
  • 3 weeks of vacation + office closures between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
  • 12 days of social leave per year (sickness, well-being and family).
  • Start date: As soon as possible.
  • Teleworking (hybrid or 100% depending on your location) from Montreal or Trois-Rivières, with some travel to be expected in Montreal and Trois-Rivières.
