Representing And Inspiring Municipalities In The Ecological Transition

The Mobilizing Municipalities movement celebrates and supports the towns and cities that take a leading role in the fight for a more sustainable world. Like any movement, Mobilizing Municipalities has a representative to give a voice to municipalities across the country acting to reduce the impacts of climate change.

Each year, one municipality is invited to be the movement’s representative, and its mayor becomes the spokesperson for the movement.

Each year, Earth Day Canada releases a media campaign for Earth Day, focused on a specific theme, aiming to inspire as many people as possible to take action and the Mobilizing Municipalities spokesperson will inspire through projects, initiatives, events that were carried out following the theme of the campaign.

2025 MUNICIPAL SPOKESPERSON

Message from Marvin Junkin, Mayor of the Town of Pelham, Ontario and municipal spokesperson for the Earth Day 2025 campaign:

“Community members from across Pelham have been participating in conservation and eco-activities that continue to grow each year. With the long-running community clean-up, tree plants and a council that is focusing on environmental and climate adaptation, we are continuing to do the important work to protect and conserve the natural heritage, resources and biodiversity in Pelham. From working to plant the at-risk Cherry Birch tree to supporting the projects to conserve the watershed and native Brook Trout, Pelham is taking action to create the foundation for a clean, safe and sustainable environment now and for future generations.”
