Ceremonial Planting 2022
Trees for the earth
Every year, the April 22nd celebrations begin with a ceremonial tree planting.
This year, Earth Day Canada is joining forces with McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario to
plant 250 trees for Earth Day.
This planting is part of a project to plant 1000 trees to create a carbon sink forest.
The students at the McMaster Centre for Climate Change will track the growth and health of each tree for years to come and share this data with other researchers working to grow carbon sink forests in Canada and around the world.
Maureen MacDonald, Dean of Science at McMaster University, Lejla Latifovic, McMaster Graduate Student, April Scholz, Earth Day Canada Development Officer and Jake Haskell, Treasurer of Earth Day Canada, participated in the planting of the first saplings.
