Statut

Ongoing

Since 2013, IGA grocers have benefited from a personalized consulting service that helps them to optimize waste management in their stores. This program was made possible by the Fonds Éco IGA.

Support that drives improvement

Earth Day’s team of advisors have been making their way across Quebec and New Brunswick to meet with IGA grocers. Every store can benefit from personalized support from an advisor who will monitor their continuous improvement process.

The support service includes:

  • An audit of the store;
  • A report providing recommendations to optimize existing waste collection methods, implement new waste collection methods and increase the store’s waste recovery rate;
  • Personalized advice on implementing new waste collection methods;
  • In-store training sessions (on food waste, sorting waste and tracking data);
  • Technical support on entering data into the tracking software.

Depuis 2013, les magasins IGA bénéficient d’un accompagnement sur leurs matières résiduelles. Certains sont certifiés Action Réduction : un outil développé par le Jour de la Terre pour promouvoir la gestion optimale des déchets des organisations.

Support that facilitates certification

The Action/Reduction® certification is available to grocers that are interested in obtaining it. The 6-level program centres around continuous improvement and is based on various criteria. The store certification is valid for 2 years and must be upgraded to the next level to be renewed (certain conditions may apply). Stores that make food donations will receive a “+” next to their certification.

Evaluation criteria

The certification is based on four criteria:
