Waste Management Advisor
Earth Day Canada is a charitable organization that, in 1995, was given the mission of organizing the Canadian component of Earth Day, an international environmental event. In addition to celebrating April 22, Earth Day Canada’s mission is to support individuals, organizations and businesses in their efforts to improve their impact on the environment.
Our organization has 30 employees, based in our Montreal offices, but also working remotely in various regions. Our team works on a variety of ambitious, action-oriented projects, revolving around different themes such as waste management, food waste, sustainable mobility, plantations and many others. Whether through conferences, awareness-raising events or on-the-job training, there are plenty of opportunities for support.
Earth Day Canada is looking for a Waste Management Advisor to join our team as part of the IGA Eco Fund program. Under the supervision of the Waste Management Team Manager, the selected candidate will be responsible for helping IGA stores in Quebec and New Brunswick improve their waste management practices, and awarding Action Reduction certification based on each store’s level of performance.
Main responsibilities:
- Make contact with IGA stores assigned to you in order to propose our services;
- Evaluate existing recovery systems through audit visits and data analysis;
- Make recommendations to improve waste management and meet the objectives of the Action Reduction certification;
- Train IGA store personnel in waste sorting best practices and tracking software;
- Support IGA in implementing weekly food donations;
- Grant Action Reduction certification;
- Obtain information from cities and suppliers to put IGA stores in touch with local recycling companies;
- Enter data into the tracking software and support stores in this task;
- Keep abreast of waste management news;
- Participate in various tasks related to the organization, including raising awareness at eco-responsible events.
Skills and qualifications :
- Experience in waste management;
- Experience in customer service;
- Experience in outreach;
- Available and comfortable with regular solo travel, valid driver’s license required;
- Enjoy working in the field;
- High degree of autonomy, proactivity, dynamism, interpersonal skills and resourcefulness;
- Good command of Office Suite tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.);
- Bilingual: French and English (asset)
Working conditions :
- Salary: depending on the salary scale in place, between $24/h and $26/h
- Start date: As soon as possible
- Location: Telecommuting and possible travel to our offices in Montreal and the region for customer visits
- Duration: 1 year with possibility of renewal
- Schedule: 35h/week
- Reimbursement of telephone subscription (up to $40/month)
