Ceremonial Planting
Trees for the earth
This year, to mark Earth Day, Earth Day Canada teamed up with the Town of Pelham, Ontario, the 2025 spokesperson for the Mobilizing Municipalities movement, for the traditional ceremonial tree planting.
Marvin Junkin, Mayor of Pelham, welcomed the Earth Day Canada team on site, including Émilie Fargeout, Manager of the Mobilizing Municipalities program, and Roxane Baron, Project Manager in Waste Management.
As part of this symbolic event, Cherry Birch trees (Betula lenta)—a native species designated as at risk by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources—were planted to highlight the importance of biodiversity and urban reforestation.

The planting took place in Pelham, near a stormwater pond at the corner of Rice Road and Highway 20. This initiative kicked off a series of environmental celebrations across the country, reminding us that every day is an opportunity to protect our environment.
