Tomorrow’s Forest – Urban Greening: What Is It?

Tomorrow’s Forest – Urban Greening supports Québec municipalities in planning and implementing science-based greening projects designed to strengthen climate resilience.

The project aims to create healthier, more inclusive, and more sustainable cities where nature protects the future and enhances quality of life for communities.

Through targeted interventions and the planting of diverse, climate-appropriate vegetation, the project helps to:

• increase canopy cover and biodiversity
• reduce heat islands
• improve air and water quality
• promote greater social and climate justice

 

Addressing Key Challenges

By 2030, Québec municipalities must implement an effective climate plan. Yet many face obstacles: limited financial resources, insufficient technical expertise, restricted administrative capacity, and challenges in operationalizing planned measures.

Approach

The project offers Québec municipalities a turnkey solution structured in three steps:

1. Assessment and diagnostic of urban trees
2. Development of the greening plan
3. Implementation of the greening plan.
