Advisor – Waste Management

Earth Day Canada is a non-for-profit organization that was granted, in 1995, the mandate to organize the Canadian component of Earth Day, an international environmental event. In addition to the April 22nd celebration, Earth Day Canada’s mission is to support individuals, organizations, and businesses in their efforts to reduce their environmental impact.

Our organization employs 20 people, both in our Montreal office and remotely in various regions. Our team works on a variety of ambitious, action-oriented projects around themes such as waste management, food waste, sustainable mobility, tree planting, and more. Whether through conferences, awareness events, or hands-on training, there are many opportunities for engagement.

Earth Day Canada is seeking a Waste Management Advisor (WMA) to join our team as part of the Éco IGA Fund program. Under the supervision of the WM Team Manager, the selected candidate will work with IGA stores in Quebec and New Brunswick to improve their waste management practices and grant the Action Reduction™ certification based on each store’s performance level.


Main responsibilities:

  • Reach out to the assigned IGA stores to offer our services;
  • Assess the existing recovery systems through on-site audits and data analysis;
  • Make recommendations to improve waste management and meet the objectives of the Action Reduction™ certification;
  • Train IGA store staff on proper waste sorting practices and the tracking software;
  • Assist IGA stores in setting up weekly food donations;
  • Grant the Action Reduction™ certification;
  • Contact municipalities and service providers to connect IGA stores with local recovery partners;
  • Enter data into the tracking software and support stores with this task;
  • Stay informed on news related to waste management;
  • Participate in other tasks related to the organization, including public awareness at eco-responsible events.

Skills and qualifications :

  • Experience in waste management;
  • Customer service experience;
  • Experience in public awareness/education;
  • Willing and comfortable with regular solo travel – valid driver’s license required;
  • Enjoys hands-on, field work;
  • Strong autonomy, proactiveness, energy, interpersonal skills, and resourcefulness;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.);
  • Bilingual: French and English (an asset)

Working conditions :

  • Salary: based on the current pay scale, between $24/hour and $26/hour
  • Start date: September 2025
  • Location: Remote work with possible travel to our Montreal office and regional client visits
  • Schedule: 35 hours/week
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Cell phone reimbursement (up to $40/month)
